The Lost Bookshop
by Evie Woods
A delightful, whimsical love story with unexpected twists and turns.
I really enjoyed the characters the writer created; you were truly rooting for both female protagonists, Opaline and Martha. Henry was also very funny, and the descriptions of the books were crafted with such care that it almost made me want to look into becoming a book dealer! The dual timelines were equally captivating, and it was enjoyable spotting the clues that linked them. Additionally, there were feminist undertones cleverly scattered throughout the book.
Only a few loopholes where the magic is not explained; I would have liked to explore this a bit more, but overall, I loved getting lost in this little world.
Favourite quotes:
'You think it's strange that a woman has been silenced? Forgotten about? Written out of history? Henry, what have they been teaching you?'
'The thing about books,' she said, 'is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of.'
