Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.

Other reviewers have put this much better than I can, but TLDR, the generous interpretation of this Discworld instalment is that Pratchett was trying to satirize the orientalist white-saviour adventure novels of the time, but instead of subverting them, he ended up writing one. Racist and uncomfortable. Life is too short to read bad books.
