Another book that I feel too dumb for, but let’s give rating it a go…
For me, this book was an allegory for co-dependency and relationship breakdown due to miscommunication and trauma specifically. Were these themes the intention of the author? Undoubtedly not, but they were what I picked up - however misinformed I may be.
I really enjoyed the writing style and character study in this book, but it did start to lag in the last third and could have done with some condensing and editing. I also think that the characters felt a little lacking in full depth and their responses confusing, especially Miri in certain scenes. Overall, however, my biggest issue was the fact that I struggle to pin down exactly what this book was about. This ephemeral nature may be a strength for others but, at least for me, it can be tiring and a sign of lazy writing unless completed perfectly - and I can’t say that this one was.
So in short - this book was a good read, an interesting approach, but slightly lacking in the depth it aimed for.
