I'm so befuddled by this book. I borrowed the audiobook version from Libby without a clue as to what it was about. I have finished the book now, and haven't a clue as to what it was about. An old reverend jotting down his memoir for his son, yes. Stories upon stories spanning an entire lifetime, yes. The purpose of these stories? No clue. I don't really remember any of them, it was just a guy talking for nine hours.
I didn't love it. But, I didn't hate it. The narrator's voice was soothing and gentle and unhurried (even at 1.5 speed... I just can't listen to anything at 1.0). I don't care what he was talking about as long as he kept talking. It was absolutely hypnotic, and nine hours may as well have been 90 seconds. So there you have it. A review that's not really a review about a story that doesn't really have a plot. I'll slice it down the middle and go with 3-stars.
