To start, Andy Serkis does an amazing job narrating the audiobook. I feel like he really captures and channels the performance of the other actors from the movies. Not to mention his overall way of narrating really captures the wonder and whimsy and magic of Tolkien’s world and descriptions. Also hearing the voice of Gollum from the movies for the book was very fun.

The book itself is amazing. Tolkien was a skilled writer and when he moves into long tangents on the world building it’s not a rambling drag and kept me interested. It perfectly captures the feeling of reading myths and legends and old stories (Beowulf comes to mind). It has such a fairy tale feel to it, it just carries you along through the story. Not to mention all the songs were very fun to listen to and I want fully productions of all of them.
