Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
5.0

Hands-down Becky's best book yet. Yeah, I said it.

This was everything I could have ever wanted!! I connected to it (and to Leah) so, so deeply. Everything from her size to her fandom nature to her accidental bitchiness was just so relatable to me. Honestly, if she was a lesbian, it would have practically been an biography about me.

There was just so much I loved about this, I don't even know where to start??? It was all so good????

I loved how Leah stood up to Morgan and held her ground on the issue. She didn't let Anna or anyone prevent her from calling Morgan out on her racist shit and she even recognized that secondhand offense is complicated to forgive, even if Abby had forgiven her. I thought it was a really good plot thread throughout the book.

Garrett was pretty sweet (except for his kinda gross girl-on-girl comment at the party); I almost felt bad that he liked Leah when Leah just wasn't interested. I loved how much Simon was in this, too!! He and Bram are still adorable and I loved every bit of it.

Honestly, there's a part of me that wants Becky to write a college book splitting between Simon and Leah. Maybe about Leah and Abby's trip to New York?? They could go see Broadway shows for Abby and Simon, it would be so cute!!!! This is probably the only contemporary that I actually want more and more books from.

Also, the ending was so cute. And I loved that Becky skipped the sort of inevitable drama that was going to go down. Like, yeah, we know it was gonna happen but I loved that she made it end on a good note anyway. I needed that.

Ugh, this was just amazing, okay.
