I loved the premise of this book and the exploration of what it means to be a woman. Through the four POV characters, the author explores themes such as:

Is wanting children a selfish act or is not wanting them selfish?
Is it a real want or simply biological programming?
Being a stay-at-home mom vs. an independent career woman
The judgement and jealousy that occurs between women, but also the support and understanding we can offer each other.
Reproductive rights and options (pregnancy, adoption, abortion) and how women are judged no matter what choice they make.

It was hard to get into at first and the writing is at times disjointed and confusing, but I'm really glad I stuck by it. Once The Mender is arrested around halfway into the book, the story flowed much better. Roberta's and Maddie's storylines were my favorites.
