Equal Rites
by Terry Pratchett
I went through a Terry Pratchett phase about 10+ years ago, but I made the mistake of trying to read the Discworld chronologically. After deciding to start again with the series, I watched a couple of videos looking at where to start. Although most were recommending to start with the City Watch series, I decided to go with the Witches series, and I started getting the lovely hardback books to read.
This book is the first in the Witches series, and is our introduction to Granny Weatherwax, who I absolutely adore. I forgot how brilliant is Terry Pratchett's humour, and particularly in his characterisations. The story involves a young girl, who was accidentally given the powers of a wizard (which is impossible because girls can't be Wizards). However she trots along to the Unseen Academy with Granny and her sentient staff, and naturally there are various mishaps along the way.
I will admit that the action at the end did go over my head a little bit (could not make heads nor tails on what was happening or quite how we got there, but enjoyed it nonetheless), but I am hoping that once I have read more novels in the Discworld and come back to this, then it might make more sense?????
