I really do feel that this book has been over-hyped on social media, especially TikTok, but it is still a decent romance overall. We follow Olive who works in a lab at Stanford University researching pancreatic cancer. We are also introduced to her friends Anh and Malcom who were both well fleshed out side characters that had their own little storyline. Olive end's up in an agreement with Dr Adam Carlson to fake date, as it would benefit both of them. Once they start fake-dating they both start to fall for each other. This book not only follows the romance, but Olive's journey to finding a lab to work in the next year, this becomes more complicated over time as the toxicity of working in STEM for women is brought to light. The one thing that stood out to me the most and appreciated was Olive being demisexual, as someone who also identifies as demisexual it was lovely to see myself being represented and was done perfectly in my opinion.
Overall this was a good book, there were definitely some problems with the pacing as the second half of the book was quicker paced and the ending did feel slightly rushed; but I enjoyed it non the less.
