I took off four percent because Laia makes me want to rip my hair out sometimes and also there were a few places where characters knew little things or details that they shouldn't have? Not a super big like plot changing thing just an event or name they had no way of knowing of. There were a few places where the pacing got a little out of hand or picked up so fast that I actually wanted it to slow down a little? Some of the trials and major and even minor scenes just felt very rushed. Outside of that I love that this book never felt like it was dragging. It picked up super quick in chapter one and things just kept happening. Even though the action started right away the world and characters were still introduced and the introductions were weaved in really well with out causing that high fantasy dragging pace a lot of first books in series tend to have.

I enjoyed this a lot more the second time around? I spaced out my re-read enough that I genuinely forgot how some things went down but even the scenes I remembered kept me on my toes. I had more of an appreciation for the characters this time around (even though Laia continues to piss me off) so that helped bump my rating. I love how engaged I felt throughout the entire story. It's so rare to get just as much excitement and theorizing and tension out of a story the second time around just as much - if not more so - than when you read it originally.
