The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver
3.0

3.5 stars. This book was very emotional. I cried uncontrollably through the first twenty pages. Reading about Lydia dealing with the loss of Freddie was really hard for me.

I don’t love the direction this took though. I guessed right from the beginning that eventually she’d end up with Freddie’s best friend, Jonah. I didn’t like the idea of that, but figured I’d see how it happened and if it worked or not for me. Overall, I liked them together at the end. However, I honestly don’t think the author touched on the guilt that would have been associated with them moving on together as a couple. I didn’t really find that realistic that it wouldn’t even have been mentioned.

I also didn’t really like how the author gave Freddie and Lydia a bunch of issues in the dream world. It seemed like she was trying to make him unlikeable to make the reader okay with Lydia and Jonah.

Also, things kinda went off the rails for me when Lydia delivered Elle’s baby by herself with no issues??? And then ran away to Croatia and just happened to find that couple that let her live in the apartment above their restaurant and work for them ???

I liked the ending. I just would have liked it to be stretched out a bit more and not so rushed.
