The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
mysterious
slow-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Character
4.5
Thankfully, the hype did not let me down. The God of the Woods is a well-crafted and expertly told mystery with family drama.
I didn't get a sense of shock value as I was reading and, honestly, that's good. With how well you are understanding this cast of characters, the ending will not come as a surprise; it felt natural.
My nitpick is one specific character felt as an extra - almost a red herring to keep you guessing until they have that one thing to contribute. But it could have been handled by a better crafted character as they intended. The extra felt as the only thing quickly tossed into the pan to make it spicy.
