Flavor introduces us to an interesting world in which cooking is a legally regulated industry that brings status and opportunity to those formally licensed as chefs. A teenaged (?) girl with her anthropomorphic (read: "'awesome") dog Buster are doing what they can to make ends meet and support her disabled parents. Meanwhile some sort of sinister magic is brewing beneath the surface of her City, a jam-packed metropolis cut off from the outside world by towering walls.

I have more questions than I do answers, especially about this world and it's social and political dynamics. But by the time Volume 1 ended (on a cliffhanger, naturally), I was hooked enough to be disappointed that my library doesn't seem to have volume 2. On the plus side, it seems to be available on Kindle Unlimited...
