Cold Comfort by Charles Todd

4.0

A short, very short, novella set in 1915 when World War I was barely six months old and there was still some hope that the war would be over quickly. Lt. Ian Rutledge has left his career at Scotland Yard and he is serving in the British Army in the front trenches in France. Rutledge quickly learns that the men under his command brought their prejudices and, unfortunately, crimes with them when they traveled with their Army units to France and he is forced to act quickly and decisively in order to prevent another crime from taking place. After reading all of the Charles Todd novels featuring Ian Rutledge, it was a pleasure to finally see Hamish alive and interacting with Rutledge in their Army unit.
