Prince's Gambit
by C.S. Pacat
May 2024 Reread
Now this book is where things get really good. If you weren’t a fan of Captive Prince I still recommend giving book two a shot. Since so much of this book revolves around battle strategy you finally get to see Damon and Laurent on equal footing. The development of their relationship feels so organic which is wild since it feels impossible that they’ll fall in love when you read book one. Also I adore all the little spy missions and political intrigue in this book. It lets you see how Laurent has been able to survive in such a cut throat world. During this book you also get more hints about why Laurent is the way he is and that his cold demeanor is largely a front. If this series isn’t for you I totally understand why, but I think this book could definitely change your mind so give it a shot.
CW: rape, murder, gore, torture, pedophilia, slavery, and past childhood sexual abuse.
