This was a fantastic fantasy read. Did it sound like the Hunger Games in some way? Yep. Did certain elements remind me of The Young Elites? Yep. And I absolutely LOVED. IT.

While it does have familiar elements from other storylines, the world building in Powerless was incredible. The banter between Kai and Paedyn was undeniably swoon worthy. The slow burn is KILLING ME!!! I need them to KISS ALREADY!!!

Powerless is funny, sad, intense, and heartbreaking. It is definitely NOT Powerless. The emotional roller coaster is brutal, but SOOOO worth it!!

I am so thankful for the epilogue so we could see what truly happened to Pae’s father AND for the glimpse into the future. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Kai and Paedyn in Reckless. He hasn’t found his courage. This gives me hope.

Knowing how this book came about made me see it in a new light. I kept seeing people say that it seemed like the Hunger Games or the Young Elites. I loved both of those series and truthfully, some of those statements rang true. So I started looking into Lauren Roberts. I was blown away! In an interview, she reveals that she was only 18 when she wrote Powerless. She said that she took elements that she loved the most from several books she had over the years and incorporated them into her book. This caused me to go into the book with a focus on reading the book for what it was.

This is definitely one of my favorite books! I’m definitely going to be buying another copy to add to my classroom library. The girls are going to love this!
