I raced through this novel as I wanted to see how the story played out, but I'm only going for a three star review because in the end I found the premise of the novel and its conclusion to be so far-fetched that it lost its validity and I didn't believe in the idea anymore. This is a shame as the writing is really very good and I felt the author perfectly captured the central character of the eight year old heroine. I liked the way that the past was interspersed with the present, breaking up what was at times a difficult and upsetting narrative, but the inevitable ending, with a semi-twist, was a step too far for me. However, I will certainly read the next novel by Claire Fuller as I do believe she has a great way with words and is a talented author.
