The Queen's Man by Sharon Kay Penman

4.0

The book had a very slow start for me, maybe it was because I’m not used to reading mysteries. But, it got better! Most of the time I didn’t want to put the book down. I will say that I was annoyed that half way through the book we already knew who the killers were (though I had my suspicions it could be wrong since there was so much left in the book). The last half of the book was just plotting a way to capture the killers.

In how I think mysteries go, I think this was executed very well. While the killer was identified very early in the story, I really enjoyed the twist at the end where we find out that Gervase (the man who was murdered), was killed for no reason truly relevant to the letter he was carrying. I also liked how within the last 50 or so pages, I started to doubt that they caught the actual killer, with Claudine being sneaky. Her ultimate identification as John’s spy shocked me, though I knew something had to be coming; there’s always a twist.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I’m excited to see where Justin ends up next!
