Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy by Jenny Nimmo

3.75⭐️

With many people in his life away from home, Charlie Bone is focused to face his time at Bloor’s academy more and more with the Yewbeams. Having arrived late to class one day, Charlie and his friend discover more of the secrets the Bloors are hiding. This includes stumbling upon a student they thought left school but has actually become invisible. It’s up to Charlie, his friends, and some of the children of the red king to help rescue this boy in the face of new evil that’s waking through the door of Bloor’s.

This has definitely been one of the weaker in the series for me so far on my reread. I enjoyed it a lot and loved learning more about the powers of the endowed children but it really dragged for me in the beginning. What I did appreciate discovering upon my reread was the level of diversity in this book and how it portrayed individuals of color as strong and powerful, and someone the kids could rely on. I think the incorporation of African ancestors and their power for Tancred really emphasized that role which was great and what really brought the book up for me. I’m looking forwarded to continuing on and discovering where certain plot points I remember come in to play for future books.
