Blood of the Phoenix by T. Isajanyan

4.0

OVERALL RATING: 4/5 stars! The descriptions and dialogue were rich and compelling. Blood of the Phoenix was full of action.
PLOT: 3/5 stars. Overall the plot was laid out very well, but the beginning was very sudden, and slightly on the info dump-y side. The novella opens with a battle scene, which I am not a fan of. At this point, I know absolutely nothing about the characters or their lives, so it's hard for me to get invested in the battle. That said, Isajanyan did an impressive job of making the characters very real in a very short amount of pages.
STRUCTURE: 5/5 stars. I felt that this novella was structured very soundly.
WORLD-BUILDING: 5/5. The battle scenes and political climate were so easy to get absorbed in.
THEME: 3/5. The themes and topics in this book were not interesting to me, however that is more of a personal preference than an issue with the book in particular. I have never been particularly interested in prequels or in large conflicts.
CHARACTERS: 5/5. Isajanyan created beautifully dimensional characters. Again, I was impressed by how well she developed the characters in such a short span.
DIALOGUE: 5/5. For me, the dialogue was the most compelling part of the story. The characters were bold and witty in their speech.
