The Terror by Dan Simmons
4.0
Mostly very positive feelings about this, if nothing else because it is truly astounding as a feat of detailed research into history and folklore, that successfully translates what could be a list of period details into something which has an emotional impact, horrific agony and extreme beauty. I really wish it’s primary villain wasn’t a homophobic stereotype ... he’s not the only gay character in this at least, and he’s a lot of fun if you try not to think about it, but he is very much a stereotype.
