The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
5.0

The best work of historical fiction I have ever read. The scope of the entire battle of Gettysburg and the loneliness of command are very effectively conveyed by viewing the battle through the eyes of three different commanders: Confederates Robert E. Lee and James Longstreet, and the Union's Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The story of Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine at Little Round Top is positively gripping.
