The Silmarillion
by J.R.R. Tolkien
adventurous
challenging
emotional
slow-paced
First: I listened to the audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis, and genuinely think this is the best-performed audiobook I've ever heard. He is a phenomenally skilled actor.
Second: There are, let's be honest, some very long lists of names or places that all sound similar enough to fully run together, and I for sure did not absorb or keep track of all of them. But I did laugh aloud, and tear up, which is probably at least in part due to aforementioned performance from Mr Serkis but also because these are really compelling stories! JRR Tolkien is masterful and I love this world so, so much.
