This was my first five star read of the year, which I don’t tend to give lightly. The first quality a five star read must have is that the book lingers with me, the second, a captivating use of language. This book achieved both. The narrative was driven at a quick enough pace to keep me engulfed (finished in two sittings), but it wasn’t so quick that it lost out in description of place or character. It felt like I was in the storyline—feeling every moment of yearning, excitement, hope and pain along with the characters, even the ancillary ones.
The plot wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but the tension, chemistry and heartbreak Toon captured in these characters makes this book feel like it was written for me. It’s a beautiful, feeling novel and manages to avoid a lot of romance clichés. The spicy scenes are tasteful and realistic and perfectly paced. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and will be looking for more work by this author in the future.
