Harry Potter Series Box Set by J.K. Rowling

5.0

5/5 stars

I read the first book, Sorcerer’s Stone when I was in 4th grade. It didn’t interest me as much as I had hoped that it would. Maybe I just wasn’t old enough to totally understand what was going on. But then I watched the movies and I became more intrigued. I tried reading the series again about two or three years later, and here I am now. I am obsessed!

J.K. Rowling has created an amazingly magical world that I think everyone should get to experience. Her writing is great for all ages. The storyline throughout the series has many different layers, which is, what I think, makes it so enjoyable for all ages to read. Each time you read the books, as you get older, you understand many things that the time before, you had know idea what it meant.

Harry’s journey to defeat evil is such a great lesson to all. Love will prevail in the end. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything because I am pretty sure that everyone knows what happens to Harry. Although some just read the series for entertainment, others read it for the deeper story. I feel like I started out a person who read for entertainment in the begining, but I quickly switched to reading for the deeper story and the overall message. Rowling based many aspects of the series somewhat off of her own life. For example, the Dementors of Azkaban represented her depression. These life connections make the story that much more meaningful. It is hard to think of demons as horrible as them to actually be based on something real, but that is just another part of the overall message, I guess.

Each of the books flow nicely whether you know it at the time or not. Things that you thought had little meaning will pop back up later in the book, or even later in the series. You will be kept waiting and you’ll be confused and feel so many other emotions while reading. The depth of the story and the amount of characters is incredible! And let me remind you that almost all of the characters have a background story and aren’t just there to add mood to the story. They all have parts, and are important in some way. I would have forgotten who was who if I was writing the book myself!

Overall, this series is one that I know I will never forget, and I think that if you ask anyone else that has read the books, they will say the same! J.K. Rowling deserves a huge round of applause for the wonderful thing that she has created! And to think that it all came to her on a simple train ride…
