Sabrina & Corina: Stories by Kali Fajardo-Anstine

5.0

Lush. Loving. Loud. Liberating.

Kali Fajardo-Anstine is the spiritual successor to [a:Francesca Lia Block|9072|Francesca Lia Block|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1530045619p2/9072.jpg], creating worlds that are both intensely real and extremely magical. Reading this book gave me chills in the same vein as when I first read [b:Freshwater|35412372|Freshwater|Akwaeke Emezi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500884500l/35412372._SY75_.jpg|56785192], [b:Her Body and Other Parties: Stories|36873977|Her Body and Other Parties Stories|Carmen Maria Machado|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|54116423], [b:White Oleander|32234|White Oleander|Janet Fitch|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1501159524l/32234._SY75_.jpg|1223333], and every single FLB book.

The characters are authentic. The situations are raw. Fajardo-Anstine has a way with words that makes these stories feel timeless but also contemporary. Colors are feelings, and you can hear music in the distance. She amplifies and electrifies each emotion with precision.

Everything about this collection of stories makes me want to do better and write more.
