despite loving Aladdin & being a big fan of retelling, this one just didn’t hit the way i wanted it to. the dialogue was stilted, i never grew to love (or even like) any of the characters, the ending was strangely unsatisfying.
i know the point of this book was to create a 'what if?' world based on already existing media, but it was very heavily an Aladdin script-to-page fanfiction for the first major chunk of the book. to the point where i was like 'damn i think i should just watch the movie instead?'
a good audiobook read to semi-zone out to, since things happened quite slowly in the plot. also had an issue with the reader, but that could easily just be a 'me' thing lol
i’m hopeful to see if this series gets better as it grows, but this one was a rough start
