Anger. So much anger reading this book. Just makes you want to go into and unleash all the frustration and hurt the words are making you feel.

The book is sent during and after slavery, so we're dealing with a lot of sensitive topics like racism, rape, abuse, murder, lynching, war, body mutilation, and shitty men.

So yeah not for the faint hearted, don't read if any of those topics trigger you.

Also not a book you can read in one sitting either, you gotta take your time with this one in order to feel the emotions the author wants to invoke.

Favourite characters are definitely Rue and Varina. Especially Rue, no matter what she was going through, what she was doing, good or bad, I was rooting for her. Something about Rue that couldn't get me to hate her.
