Spells For Forgetting by Adrienne Young

3.75

On a small island known for it's folklore and mystical ways, a terrible fire and the mysterious murder of a teen girl change everything. Fourteen years later, the suspected murderer returns to the island, which unearths secrets that had long since been buried.

This is a mystery/thriller with a hint of magical realism. The setting is completely atmospheric and adds a lot to the telling of the story, which is told through various POVs across a then vs. now timeline.

I had heard it was good to go into this story blind, which I agree is good advice. I do wish I had at least paid more attention to the book summary, though, since the story is just a little "witchy," which I'm not particularly into. I suppose I could have guessed from the title too! While it could be a touch slow at times, I was intrigued by some of the plot twists and enjoyed the story overall.
