Nordic Tales: Folktales from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark by Chronicle Books
3.0
I got this book because I was looking for the stories behind the Fairytales and Folklore coloring book illustrated by Emilie Lidehall Oberg, but I was disappointed.
Apparently, this book is an anthology of public domain translations, and it shows. It was full of weird old stories told in old-timey ways. I was surprised by prominent references to Christianity and by how many of the stories feature the heroes lying, cheating, and stealing. I get that old folk tales are often weird and repetitive, but I think the retelling could have been improved. The illustrations were good, but overall, I would not recommend.
