Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

emotional reflective sad medium-paced

5.0

i've been meaning to post a review about this book since finishing it a week ago, but i still couldn't find the proper words to describe the big impact it left me inside. it made me shed so many tears, but made me feel warm inside as well.

as someone who has never had to deal with grief of a loved one, and as someone who is close to her mother, this memoir shred me many times. it was real hard to go through some pages because you can feel Michelle's aching in her writing, you can feel her fondness and admiration for her mother in such a intense way that forces you connect with her even deeper. i specially loved the parts in where she described with such tenderness how food took such an crucial role in her relationship with her mother, how the taste of kimchi and how improving her yasik recipe help her cope with her grief. love is stored in sharing food and cooking for the ones close to you.

i will be keeping every word in this book close to my heart. and i will have Michelle's songs playing on loop for a long time as well.
