Savage Urges by Suzanne Wright
3.0

3.5 stars. This was another good addition to this fun series! This was the story of Ryan, an enforcer for the Phoenix Pack, and Makenna, a lone wolf that works at a shelter for other lone wolves. Makenna works with homeless loners, especially women and children that have been abused and are on the run or were banished from their packs. One homeless boy, fourteen year old Zac, shows up and Makenna searches for his family to see if he can be rehomed in a new pack. She finds that Ryan Connor is his uncle. Ryan, and the rest of his pack, are skeptical of trusting loners, because they have a bad reputation for being hired killers or criminals. But Ryan feels a connection to Zac, and Makenna, right away. Ryan feels a responsibility to prtect Zac and have him join the Phoenix Pack. Gradually Ryan spends time with Zac, with Makenna along as chaperone/caketaker, and Zac begins to feel comfortable with joining the pack. After spending time together, Makenna and Ryan start to realize they like each other and Ryan thinks they are mates. But Makenna is skeptical. She is used to being a lone wolf and and she doesn't think she feels the mating bond. She really likes Ryan though. She wants him to be her mate, but she is worried that if he is not that Ryan will leave her. There is some drama with a rival pack who wants to take over the shelter. They cause trouble with the council, anti-shifter extremists and almost get the shelter closed down, but everything works out ok in the end. Ryan is determined to have Makenna accept him as his mate and finally their bond is cemented.

I don't think I liked this book as much as a few of the others, mainly because of the fact that Ryan was so much the strong silent type and not very vocal about his feelings. Makenna also fought the fact that she may be Ryan's mate because of her insecurity about being a lone wolf. It made it hard for me to feel a connection between them. But I did eventually feel it and I did enjoy the story. It was fun to catch up with the other members of the pack too. Overall, it was a good story and I enjoyed the book!
