The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern
3.5 stars.
this book is gorgeous, there’s no denying that. especially in the second half, i was pulled in so throughly that i couldn’t put the book down. i needed to know how everything ended, and despite a few gripes, i really enjoyed how the story wrapped up.
the problem with this book is that it took me almost 300 pages to get invested. while the writing was pretty, plot-wise nothing was happening for a good chunk of the book. i found it incredibly tedious and boring, to the point i considered DNF’ing. also, the romance between marco and celia is so sudden and out of nowhere, i wasn’t rooting for them? at all? if their romance was focused on more, i feel like i would’ve liked this better. regardless though, the ending was enough for me to rate this 3.5 stars, despite the slow beginning.
