Boo by Rene Gutteridge, (Boo Series, Book 1) from Books In Motion.com
by Rene Gutteridge
This audiobook taught me to read the synopsis on the back all the way through. Judging a book by its cover is folly. On that note, I overall enjoyed this novel that I never would have chosen normally.
The part of the synopsis I glazed over was "god" and that turns out to be a key word in describing this work. Gutteridge, it seems, is a christian humor writer. Surprise! I thought the book was about something Halloween-y.
The book IS about how a famous horror writer turns to religion and shuns future writing in that genre. The town he lives in, which is a tourist trap based on his works, comes together to convince him to return to his writing while the girl of his dreams discovers and falls in love with the new him.
The novel is very humorous and well written. I enjoyed the base of the plot, although I found there to be too much preachy talk for my taste. For those who feel strongly in their christian faith this might speak to you especially well. For me, well it is hard to convince me writing or reading horror is evil and equivalent to worshipping the devil, but maybe that is just me.
This is the first in a series. Still debating if I will go ahead and listen to the 2nd of the series. Suppose I will decide after reading the WHOLE synopsis...
