Agnes and Eleanor are senior citizens who live in the town of Tadium, not too far from each other. Agnes was married to a state trooper, who died young of a heart attack. She went to work as a cleaner and got hired by a lawyer as an investigator when she realized she was invisible to people and they would talk about all kinds of things when she was around. Eleanor is several years the elder, but Aggie kept her out of the nursing home when her son tried to put her away.
Aggie runs into her former boss, Andrew, when a girl disappears who is the daughter of his friend. They come to the town to look for her. Aggie also had a granddaughter disappear about a year ago. She feels that somehow this disappearance is tied up with her granddaughter's also. So, she sets about to talk to everyone she can who might know about the disappearances. She also suspects that this case is somehow related to the murder of a family that happened many years ago. Apparently she is close to finding out, because someone keeps shooting at her.
