Eragon by Christopher Paolini
3.0
adventurous mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I rate this a 3 mostly from nostalgia perspective, but it does have some things going for it. For one, it's incredibly earnest, even through all of the cliches. While the characters are archetypes, the portrayal of Eragon as a 15 year old hormonal boy is incredibly realistic in many (hilarious) ways. There is also the bones of a good story, and having read the rest of the series as a teenager I can attest to those bones being built upon to create something more unique, at least in some circumstances.
All in all it was an enjoyable experience, even through all the infodumps and obvious plot twists.
