It took a few scenes to get my head back into the Shakespearean/Elizabethan English. But it did not take long at all before I was fully engrossed with the rhematic flow, typical of Shakespeare.
There is a clear reason why Romeo and Juliet are still celebrated today as classics, and reading again in my thirties. I can completely understand why this is still pushed in schools for tweens/teens to study.
Nothing screams melodrama better than a Shakespearean play, no one understand the instant, life shattering feeling of your first love (and second love In our Romeo's case). The need to go out of the way to get one over on their parents like a young person forbit of said love. The inability to move past a love that just wasn't to be like young person. We have all been there, no one will ever get or feel it as deep as you except maybe these two lovers who really do embody that raw and untamed emotion of teen lush/love.
