Deeplight by Frances Hardinge

This book was not at all what I had thought it would be going into it but I really did enjoy my time with this story. Although it took me a little while to get into the story and the characters I felt that it really picked up towards the end. I really enjoyed the setting of this one and the world that Frances Hardinge has built. There were some characters I was unsure about and wasn't the biggest fan of however this was something that as the story arc progressed I understood more of why I was feeling this way. I wish we had spent more time in the Undersea but it was made clear as to why we did not but it just sounded so fascinating I wanted more. I also adored seeing characters who were deaf and used sign language throughout this novel and really enjoyed that this was a totally normal part of their society, I felt like the representation was really good (although I can't speak from experience) and wasn't just thrown in to make the book more diverse it really added something to the world and the characters. Overall I would recommend this book and would definitely think about picking up more of Frances Hardinge in the future.
