This was one tough read. Andrew Joseph White pulled no punches, and didn't shy away from the ugly face of the story he set out to tell. This is a violent story built on a bloody history, with elements of the real stories of the West Virginia Coal Wars interspersed. A lot of the story is hard to stomach, but is a stark reminder about the ways people need community. And as flawed as he is, the character of Miles is so comforting and familiar, as I find reflected in his queerness and values are a large number of my friends and comrades. I really loved Dallas as a character, too. I hope to be like them.

Do not read this book if any of the myriad graphic triggers check-marked are too much for you. Otherwise - read this book.
