i found this book, compared to other classics, very easy to read and comprehend. the story is short and that is enough to tell the story.

once gregor turned into a bug, he was no longer useful, it was apparent that the only love his family had for him was due to the fact that he was providing for the family. i think that his sister, grete, was only taking care of him in the start because she was hoping he would turn back, be cured, get better and continue providing. his family was not loving him as a person, but rather as a body. i do believe the book also talks about the human condition obviously. even though gregor was a bug, he was still conscious and still himself in a way, just without his previous body. and the damage that was caused by isolation and seeing his family regard him as a burden, as well as being subject to multiple attacks was enough for gregor to waste away and die. the story was very sad. being transformed into a giant insect out of pure air and having no other purpose but just to die. i believe that the hatred the family, especially father experienced due to gregors inability to provide caused them to let it out on, what they thought was just a bug that was not gregor. it is unfortunate that gregor died such a dreadful death.

but anyway, i appreciate the ever so changing metaphor of this book and the fact that it can be interpreted in many ways.
