kelevrak 's review for:
The Adoration of Jenna Fox
by Mary E. Pearson
2.5 Stars
I would have given it a solid 3 stars, maybe even 3.5, if not for that ending. I felt that it was a very weak ending to what had seemed to be a very promising start. I won't go too much into detail because, really, there is little I can say that wouldn't be spoilers.
The level of disappointment was so immense, I think, because that beginning put my expectations on a whole new level. We are given a glimpse of how far corrupted love could be, a horrible decision made that could have ruined the once "perfect" bonds in that family, only to then be easily forgiven despite how life-altering these events were. How potentially horrific life could be because of a decision made with love.
But no, forgiveness comes a whole lot easier than I would have ever wanted. I was not against it happening at all, I just felt that the last 80 or so pages were so ridiculously rushed that it... was.. well, ridiculous.
That said, I found myself enjoying Jenna (mostly, at least). The struggles she faced seemed realistic. I think that the characters other than Jenna were so damn bland by the end...
Ethan...no.
Dane (who I HAD SUCH HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR)....also, no.
Neighbor....no.
Parents....no.
EVERYONE BY THE END OF THIS BOOK: No.
One-time read, unfortunately.
I really wanted to like this book.
I REALLY wanted to like this book.
Sadly, that ending absolutely sucked for me.
