The Devil in the Kitchen by Marco Pierre White
4.0
I was introduced to Marco White on an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. I was fascinated by how the person Tony called the original bad boy chef could have walked away from the kitchen.
As a culinary enthusiast, the book provided a no-frills biography of hard core chef. The book wasn't filled with a lot of flowery language, it was told as I'd imagine Marco would tell it if you were sitting next to him at a bar. It provided an interesting historical context to his timing in becoming a chef with the changing culinary world in the UK, and how some of the habits he picked up from his mentors (asking why instead of just doing what is expected) led him down the path of revolutionary chef.
If you like cooking, and like reading about chefs, this is a great read.
