The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
4.0

I loooooved the first half of this book and while I enjoyed the second half it lacked the magic.

I thought it was set in a more historical time but then they mentioned TV, computers and basically mobile phones. Seemingly they choose to segregate themselves from main society because they were from powerful houses.

The invasion and fight in the middle of the book seemed to be the main point, Mamorou died ffs!! Then the story just kept going, revealed a few things, Takeshi had a bit of a redemption but nothing much really happened then it just ended leaving it open. It was sold as a standalone novel but you can see there was a set up to fight the next big bad. At the end there was a note saying the author was disbanding the Theonite world. I think there was meant meant to be more but the other attempts weren't as well received.
