An excellent book. The first two-thirds of it hewed quite closely to the story of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, filling in some blanks with pathos and a wit so sharp it could cut a strand of hair.
But when the story veered from the well-trodden Twain-penned path, it became a thing of beauty. James deserves all the dignity of this novel and of his full name. Bravo.
