When I first started this book, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to like it at all. The main character was insufferable with how instantly self-absorbed he was, and the prose was... Hmmm... Well, the character voice is very strong in it, but the prose itself is kind of weak and a little more simple than I generally like.

And maybe I wouldn't have enjoyed it quite so much if I hadn't listened to this book entirely on audiobook, but Pete Cross killed it. He was so, so perfect for this role, and really brought PK to life. It was honestly amazing the things he did with the narration here. By far one of the best audiobooks that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. This book was written in a stream-of-consciousness sort of style, and I'm frankly amazed at the things that Peter Cross was able to do with it.

As I continued on listening to the story, the story itself seemed to improve. The prose got stronger, and while it took a while for the story to take shape, it did, in fact, eventually take shape. The main character's self-absorption was, in fact, addressed, in a way that I thought was pretty satisfying, and I appreciated how the story subverted certain tropes.

This book didn give me the very, very strong urge to work on my own writing, so there's that!
