Love & Virtue by Diana Reid

5.0

Sharply barbed, darkly humorous and movingly tender in equal parts, this book is a Monkey Grip spiritual successor about a first year philosophy student who moves from Canberra to Sydney and must navigate the complex power dynamics she experiences during her first year living as a scholarship student at the elite Fairfax college. A social commentary for the times, speaking cleverly about gender politics (cw: campus rape culture), classism and the problematic side of Australia's "she'll be right" mentality. An absolute page turner of a debut novel.
