Sweet Like Whiskey by Emmy Sanders

5.0

4.5 stars
I'm so happy I got to read this book, I already feel like this will be another amazing series from Emmy Sanders.
Ashely left his life in Maine, his boyfriend and his job with just two suitcases and his old car, determined to go to Darling in Montana, where his best friend Virginia lives.
Ashely needed a change, he was unhappy and at 35 years old he felt like he could start fresh.
Jackson, 40 years old, manages his parents ranch in Darling, he feels a little lonely but he's not ready to risk his heart again after the end of his previous relationship.

But when Ash is hired by Jackson mom's as a cook for the family and its employees, they immediately hit off and grumpy Jack cannot resist sunshine Ash and his charme.

I adored the family and all its members: the parents (twice married and twice divorced) who still love each other; Lawson, in the middle of a divorce and with a teenage daughter; Colton, straight (and oblivious), at war with Noah King; Remi, Deaf and sweet. They all welcomed Ash as a memebr of the family too and "gently" pushed Jackson towards him.

I loved Ash: behind his sunshine personality, he hides a world of pain and discomfort, but also a strong determination to be indipendent and to live his life fully and bravely. I adored that, despite his previous relationship didn't work, he was not scared to be with Jackson.
And Jackson, he's so sweet and romantic, but he had to hide it because of the heartbreak he endured. He's caring, loyal, strong. They're so very good together and the banter between them is very funny.

The sex scenes are very intimate and spicy and they show great chemistry and deep connection.

What prevented me from giving 5 full stars:
Otto was a presence through the whole book and he severely conditioned Jackson's choices at first. I was a little bummed that (view spoiler)

Two things very worth mentioning:
Virginia is not the usual meddling best friend and I adored her.
Nicholas, Ash's ex, is actually a good guy and I would love for him to return in this series (and maybe settling with Remi, since Lawson and Colton seem already paired off).

So, great start for this series, I can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
