The Odd Woman and the City by Vivian Gornick
4.0
I love reading Vivian Gornick. And/but - maybe it's because her memoir of her childhood was so indelible, but to me she seems like such a specific point in time in nyc that it was shocking to be to come across the 9/11 reference in this book, and even more so for me to see that she is currently alive. I don't consider it to be a bad thing that to me she is a very 20th century writer. Maybe her framework continues to present itself in that way in my reading, even when she is describing things that happened this century. I was then comparing this book to [b:The Vulnerables|125930473|The Vulnerables|Sigrid Nunez|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1680838245l/125930473._SY75_.jpg|135510724] but this book is still pre-pandemic. I guess Gornick and Nunez are generationally separate, so maybe this just on me for not reading as many active writers of this age, especially who are women!
