The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud

Reread in 2023 and this book is still as fantastic as ever. Bartimaeus is still as charming as ever for a djinn that would kill you if you make a wrong step in your incantations or set one foot outside the pentacle during summoning. Nathaniel remains the annoying but capable brat you can't help but grudginly root for.
The ancedotes haven't lost their charm and by the book gods this book will remain a fave forever!
