Excalibur Epic Collection, Vol. 1: The Sword Is Drawn by Michael Higgins, Alan Davis, Chris Claremont, Chris Claremont

4.0

The original Excalibur comics from Claremont/Davis were so delightfully weird and light. Claremont is full on Claremont here (complete with fulfilling the writers barely disguised fetish meme) and Davis' pencils are tight and a perfect fit for the stories. The team forms in the UK after the apparent death of the X-Men and consists of Kitty Pryde, Rachel Summers, Nightcrawler, Capt Britain, and Meggan. They have a brief sojourn to NYC during the Inferno event, but otherwise aren't involved with the rest of the X teams and spend their time dealing with Mojo, Arcade, and the Technet. Most of the time it's fairly low stakes, silly fun. This is one of my favorite X comics from that era.
